Babylonstoren

Babylonstoren opened last year but has immediately received lots of recognition. Condé Nast Traveler’s Hot List and Travel+Leisure’s IT lists as one of the best new hotels in the world. That was just some of the many reasons why I wanted to check Babylonstoren out.

I arrived in the afternoon and was escorted straight to the room. Babylonstoren has 12 rooms, 8 of them is one bedroom and 4 of them two bedrooms.

I stayed in a one bedroom suite, and it was lovely with it’s unique design as you can see in the photos below. Freestanding bathtub and L’Occitane products were nice touches as well as the comfortable bed.

The current rates start at ZAR 4.270 in high season and ZAR 2.970 in low season which in my opinion is excellent value.

The service level was great but perfect. It’s not what makes this place unique. Babylonstoren recently opened and you can’t expect it to be like Singita from day one. The staff are very friendly

The minibar is complimentary. It’s not filled when you arrive, but they ask you what you would like and then deliver it all.

Their restaurant, Babel, was named a top20 restaurant in South Africa and was a great dining experience. They are experimenting with as many local ingredients as possible. I loved the concept and the atmosphere at Babylonstoren is one of the best I have experienced in my travels.

Overall a fantastic and unique experience to the portfolio. It’s a very special place with it’s own identity and unique character. Even though service isn’t perfect I can’t recommend it enough.

My opinion: Fantastic experience.
