Casa Colombo

Based on my research Casa Colombo looked like the best place to stay in Colombo by far and I was excited to see how good it could be. Casa Colombo is a member of Chic Retreats and was named Sri Lankas Leading Hotels by World Travel Awards in 2011.

Casa Colombo is located close to the city centre and offers 12 designer suites in a 200 year old mansion.

I arrived late and did a quick check in before the receptionist escorted me to my room. I stayed in a Elfindale Avenue Suite and it was something special. Beautiful design and with many nice details like free standing bath tub, special designed sinks to just name a few.

The service was very good with very friendly staff, however the English skills could in some areas be improved. The internet is another thing that could be improved as it was quite slow. Service is of course the most important thing in a hotel, but what makes Casa Colombo special is it’s design and the residential feel to it.

The breakfast wasn’t very good and while the feeling of Casa Colombo could be like a Relais&Chataeux it could never be one as the food wasn’t good. This is often a problem in even the best boutique hotels. I didn’t have dinner in the hotel, but people seems to be very happy with that on Tripadvisor.

Overall a great experience. It’s among the better boutique hotels and surely the best place to stay in Casa Colombo. There are chain hotels, but you can wake up in the middle of the night and forget where you are. That won’t happend in Casa Colombo.

My opinion: Great experience.
