Location: George, South Africa.
My Experience: Fancourt is a big corporate resort with a membership of The Leading Hotels of the World, located in George in the Western Cape of South Africa. 133 rooms and suites total and some private residences making it feel like a big resort. The service is formal. Some of the staff are well-trained while others could need more training. The rooms are similar to a good chain hotel like a Conrad or newer Ritz-Carlton. Comfortable bed, separate sitting area, complimentary Wi-Fi, but unfortunately no rain shower in the bathroom in the room I stayed.
The facilities include a spa, four restaurants and a large golf course. I had dinner at their fine dining restaurant called Henry White’s, but it is unfortunately not comparable with the best restaurants in South Africa. I found the food to be good, but average, and I expected a lot better at such a corporate property.
Fancourt is lacking the charm many smaller country hotels have but is instead a well-managed property. It’s a “machine” that works and feels like a well-run city hotel where service is fast and professional rather than relax and personalised. If this is your preference, I can highly recommend Fancourt.
Duration of Stay/Visit: One night.
My Opinion: Great experience.
