Hotel Okura Amsterdam

Hotel Okura is a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and part of the Japanese Okura group. 300 rooms total is found in this business oriented hotel which have a location just outside the centre of Amsterdam. My experience started with a professional welcome at the check in desk before having a lunch at their Michelin starred Japanese restaurant called Yamazato. It was wonderful and a fast option called the lunch box. High quality ingredients and polite service from the Japanese staff made it a lovely experience. Furthermore Okura has a 2 Michelin starred restaurant as well which make them quite unique. After the lunch, I was escorted to the room. A lovely Corner Suite with a few Japanese elements, but with the feel of a Ritz-Carlton hotel. The bed was comfortable and the internet worked very well. The hotel offers complimentary basis intenet while the high speed option is chargeable, exactly as in Four Seasons hotels. I later gave a lecture to the staff at the hotel and had a site inspection. Really impressive facilities and the 5 star rating is definitely deserved as the European star rating system mainly is based on facilities.
Service is always the most important thing in a hotel and it worked very well at Okura. In a 300 room hotel personalized service isn’t possible and you will often have to wait for service, but in business hotels I focus on the professionalism and it was very impressive here. Well-trained staff in all departments I managed to explore in my short stay. The only negative I could found is that the hotel is too big for my personal taste, but it’s like that in my business hotels. The stay ended with a great breakfast and I overall find great value in Okura’s bed and breakfast rates. Amsterdam is a great value destination indeed.
The bottom line is that Hotel Okura Amsterdam works as a great business hotel with professional service. Their high focus on food is admirable and surely a safe choice as long as you don’t need a central location in Amsterdam.

My opinion: Great experience.
