Jicaro Island Ecolodge is in my opinion the best place to stay in Nicaragua based on my experiences with four of the country’s top hotels. Jicaro is located on a separate island just 10 minutes by boat from the colonial town of Granada and has only 9 rooms total, called casitas. The resort was included in Condé Nast Travelers Hot List of 2010 and is managed by Cayuga Sustainable Hospitality. All 9 casitas have beautiful lake views, a comfortable bed and the entire casita are made of local rainforest wood. The only thing I didn’t like was the fact that internet is only available in the lobby and restaurant area, but at least it was complimentary.
All guests have all meals included and the food exceeded my expectations, all my meals was very good and definitely the best food I had in Nicaragua. The staff are very kind and the service level exceeded my expectations as it could easily be compared with great resorts in more developed countries.
Overall a surprisingly great resort, I did not expect Nicaragua to have a world class resort, but Jicaro proved me wrong.
My opinion: Great+ experience.
