Engelenburg picked me up in Brummen Train Station 500 metres from the hotel. I was happy to be escorted right to the room and I really love when I don’t have to fill out a registration form.
I stayed in a Orangerie Suite which was lovely. Separate sitting area from the bed, smaller flatscreen Tv, very comfortable bed and finally a huge flower which gave the room a special touch.
With Relais&Chateaux I can always count on great food. Kasteel Engelenburg really delivered on this point with great food and service. They also had the largest selection of South African wines in all of Europe and their wine cellar was very impressive. The Netherlands does produce wine, but the quality is still not good enough for high end restaurants according to Engelenburg’s sommelier.
The most important thing is always the service and the most important thing in service is the attitude. Really great staff in all areas. 41 rooms is a little bigger than my personal preference, but the personalized service and details is there and I was very happy to receive a beautiful handwritten welcome card from the owner, Johan Agricola.
Overall a really great country experience. Beautiful property which has the 5C’s of Relais&Chateaux and I would love to visit it again in the future.
My opinion: Great experience.
