Lapa Palace

Lapa Palace used to be Orient-Express, but they sold it two years ago and is now owned by a Portugese company called Olissippo. When I heard Orient-Express had sold this property I became sceptical, but based on my research it seemed like Olissippo has maintained the standards. The hotel is still a member of The Leading Hotels of the World and a renovation have recently been done.

My experience in Lapa Palace started with a warm welcome and an escort to the room. I stayed in a junior suite which had a wonderful balcony with beautiful view of the swimming pool and garden. The suite itself had a separate sitting area from the bed which was very good. The bath tub had separate shower from the bath tub and in general it was a very nice updated room. What I hated about the hotel was the chargeable internet. As I’ve said many times before you can’t charge for internet in 2011. Orient-Express has realized that and I wish brands like Four Seasons and Olissippo would realize that as well. The service was very good and could be compared with the Orient-Express properties I’ve stayed in. What can be improved is still the property itself. It’s recently been renovated, but parts of the hotel still looks out-dated.

Overall a great experience to the portfolio. Not one of the best European hotels, but definitely one of the bests in Portugal and highly recommended in Lisbon if only the best can do.

My opinion: Great experience.
