Le Quartier Français

Le Quartier Francais is a member of Relais&Chateaux and is one of the top choices in Franschhoek.

I arrived at noon after a short walk from The Last Word. I was immediately escorted to the room. I wasn’t offered a welcome drink or room orientation which was quite disappointing as I see it as a must. I stayed in a one of their standard rooms and I wasn’t too impressed. It had a separate sitting area and flatscreen Tv, but the room felt a little too basic and with out-dated parts. I liked the bathroom amenities and bed, but that was about it. The facilities included a beautiful swimming pool area where I had a nice rest in the sun. The most important thing is always the service and it’s definitely not among the best in South Africa. Some staff are very good, but lots could need some training like the one checking me in without explaining the room. I couldn’t get a table in their famous restaurant so I only had breakfast in the hotel. It was great with a nice buffet and fantastic cooked breakfast. I definitely understand the great reviews of the hotel, but the focus is always on the food.

Overall a very nice Relais&Chateaux. There is no doubt they are famous for their food. I wasn’t very impressed with the rooms and service level, but food is very important for Relais&Chateaux and that’s why they are a member.

My opinion: Good+ experience.
