Makati Shangri-La Manila

Shangri-La is the brand between Four Seasons and Hilton. Their hotels are always up to a standard, but besides that it’s hit and miss. There are hotels within their portfolio that are among the best in the world, and then there are hotels on Hilton level.
Makati Shangri-La is known as one of their top properties. They are the most expensive hotel in the city, and there is a reason for that.
Manila is one of the few cities outside China where Shangri-La is the best hotel, and it is great. It all starts with great service when you arrive, and there is a lot of staff welcoming you and escorting you to the check in counter.
At check in I was upgraded to a Deluxe Suite which was very comfortable, nice large bathroom and very comfortable bed. There was fruit, chocolates and red wine as welcome amenity. One of Shangri-La’s signatures is the complimentary internet and it’s a nice touch. I also had access to their lounge Horizon Club, and it’s one of the best I’ve been to, if not the best. The food and beverage selection are amazing, and the service is second to none. I asked about sightseeing, and they gave me all information to every last detail. Amazing.

Yes, the service here is world class. Mainly because the wages is very low in Manila and they can afford to have very many staff. There is always at least two staffs at the elevators to make sure you don’t have to wait. There is staff to take care of you when you arrive at the swimming pool. The other facilities is great too, and there is service everywhere. There is a separate reception for the gym and a lot of people everywhere to help and take care of you. The breakfast was really good with a huge selection of food.

Overall this hotel is very close to the best hotels in the world. They deliver on the service, but the rooms need improvement to be among the best in the world. I saw the lower room categories, and they are nice, but to get the highest rating from me, you must have world class rooms too.

My opinion: Great experience.
