Meson Panza Verde is a small authentic hotel experience in the touristic town of Antigua.
I arrived in the afternoon and received a warm check in by the receptionist before she escorted me to the room. Meson Panza Verde only has 12 rooms and I was lucky enough to stay in Master Suite Room number nine. It had a unique antique furniture like the rest of the hotel, a comfortable bed, large bathroom and complimentary wifi which unfortunately was quite slow.
The service was much better than I expected. Antigua is excellent value for money, but this hotel delivered great personalized service with very kind staff at a price much lower than similar hotels in the rest of the world. The food was really great, their restaurant recently received an award as the best in Guatemala. I don’t have much to compare with, but I can only say it was really great and exceeded all my expectations. Their ingredients are very fresh and their imported meat were cooked to perfection.
Meson Panza Verde was the first luxury boutique hotel that opened in Antigua back in the 80’s. It’s well maintained and nothing feels dated and all rooms are updated with flatscreen Tv’s and all rooms also have their own fireplaces. If you like Relais&Châteaux hotels I’m sure you would like Meson Panza Verde. Only difference is that Meson Panza Verde charges much less for their room rates and food.
It is a very intimate hotel and that unfortunately means some rooms are located right outside the restaurant. Unacceptable noise level at dinner time, but that would be the only thing to point out of a great stay. I would not hesitate to call this the best value I’ve experienced and Antigua is a place to have a great colonial experience at a bargain price while staying in Meson Panza Verde.
My opinion: Great experience.
