As a platinum member of Ritz-Carlton Rewards, I had access to their lounge, and it was top class. Great selection of food and beverages combined with superb Japanese service. Back to the food, this hotel has not only one but two Michelin stars restaurants, and I’ve read many people visit this hotel mainly for the food. In that category, it’s world class.
The property itself is a bit old, but it has a great atmosphere. Compared to Ritz-Carlton Tokyo this hotel feels more like a Japanese hotel and some people prefer it to the Tokyo property, because they believe Tokyo is too international, and they want to try something different. I agree, this is a different hotel experience. So is this one of the best hotels in the world? It depends on your personal preference. The service is excellent, but not out of the world like fx The Oriental in Bangkok. The rooms are not world class like The Sukhothai, but they are acceptable for a Ritz-Carlton. The same is there to say about the facilities. Overall this hotel is not one of my favourite hotels in the world, but it belongs on every list of the best 100s of hotels in the world.
My opinion: Great experience.
