Design Hotels is a collection of quality hotels around the world with great design. In all of South Africa, you’ll only find one hotel, Ten Bompas in Johannesburg. Johannesburg is opposite of Cape Town and only have a few great hotels. Based on Design Hotels and Tripadvisor this looked like one of them. I arrived in the hotel from The Westcliff, and as expected they knew me by name. It’s a lot easier to deliver great service when you only have a few guests, but this hotel does. The staff were super friendly and attentive to detail.
All ten suites are different from each other, and I got one of the manager’s personal favourites, suite number seven. It had a great design and it’s well worth its membership of Design Hotels. Comfortable bed, flatscreen Tv, fireplace and steam bath. Furthermore complimentary internet and mini-bar. Even champagne when I arrived with a welcome note from the management. Fantastic suite as you can see in the photos below. I had dinner in their restaurant with fairly priced steaks of high quality. South Africa has some of the best meat in the world, and it’s not the best country for vegetarians. The breakfast is á la carte where they did my scrambled eggs with salmon to perfection.
Overall a great hotel experience. It’s a member of Design Hotels, but this hotel is much more than just the design. It’s a perfect place to relax in a quiet area of Johannesburg with lovely people and service. Close to the best hotel experiences I’ve had and, therefore, a very high rating.
My opinion: Great experience.
