The Chedi Chang Mai

The Chedi Chiang Mai is a member of the Leading Hotels of the World and based on my experiences with GHM in the past I arrived with high expectations.

I paid the prepaid 120 THB taxi from the airport and arrived in the hotel to a warm welcome. Normally I have to wait a few minutes for a welcome drink, but it was given right away together with a towel. Right after I was escorted to their club lounge where I was informed of an upgrade to one of their Chedi Club Suites. They have the same design as the standard rooms, but with a separate sitting area. The Chedi only has these two room categories which is quite unusual for a hotel. 84 rooms total including 32 club suites.

The Chedi Club Suite was amazingly designed and similar to The Sukhothai Bangkok which remains my one of my favorite city hotels in the world. The suite had atttention to all details. Let me list some of them. Fantastic comfortable bed, frestanding bathtub with bathsalt, lovely local products in the bathroom, revolving Tv so you can enjoy it in both the bed and the livingroom. The working desk had all the features needed and it’s important as The Chedi receives business people as well with it’s location in the city. Another important thing for business people is internet and it was complimentary and with a very high speed.

The service is always the most important thing and it was great. Lovely staff with the right attitude. Always smiling, helpful and going out ot their way to please you.

The food was another pleasant experience. The breakfast was among the best I’ve had. A small buffet, but a great ala carte selection where you can select as much as you want of high quality dishes. I also had lunch in the hotel and it was a good experience, but unfortunately overpriced. Rachamankha charges under half the price for similar food and quality. It was probably the only thing I didn’t like about The Chedi.

The entire property is amazingly designed and the swimming pool and spa is no exception. The spa furthermore had good facilities for relaxation and I regreat not having a spa treatment there, but the prices were too high so I can’t comment on the value of it.

Overall a fantastic experience at a very low price. I couldn’t believe the value of this hotel. Food and spa is very expensive compared to it’s competitor Rachamankha, but The Chedi is one of those few excellent expriences you can have at a much lower prices than usual.

My opinion: Fantastic experience.
