The Governor’s Residence by Orient-Express is located within the Embassy Quarter just outside the city centre of Yangon, the capital of Myanmar. Myanmar is new on many travelers “must visit list” and new hotels are coming up. In the meantime, The Governor’s Residence remains the best in the country and my experience was great from start to finish. The welcome was impressive with kind staff, a welcome drink and a cold towel. I was right after escorted to my room. I stayed in a nice Deluxe Room which was beginning to look a little tired and was very similar to the other Orient-Express properties I have stayed in South East Asia. Especially similar to their properties in Siem Reap and Luang Prabang.
I used to say it’s hard to find a bad hotel in South East Asia because the staff are so lovely and The Governor’s Residence is no exception. Wonderful staff with great service and I can’t wait to return to Myanmar when more luxury properties is open as I think it willl be just like Thailand 15 years ago. I didn’t have dinner in the resort, but the breakfast was one of the bests I’ve had in South East Asia. A great buffet with egg and soup stations. The local Mohinga soup is fantastic and a must to experience at breakfast time.
My stay at The Govenor’s Residence was perhaps a little too short, but I saw another well-managed Orient-Express property that works and definitely is the place to stay when visiting Yangon and Myanmar.
My opinion: Great+ experience.
