The Strand Yangon

The Strand Yangon is one of the smallest properties in the Leading Hotels of the World-portfolio. The property has a colonial design which unfortunately isn’t up to the standards of the other GHM-hotels I’ve stayed. It’s quite dated and a renovation could really make a difference for this hotel.

The service was really great and made it a very pleasant experience. The personalized butler service is very impressive although I – after more than 650 of the world’s best hotels – don’t like butler service personally. The downtown locaton makes it a better business option than the Governor’s Residence, but for leisure travelers Governor’s Residence is definitely the place to stay.

The stay ended with a truly great breakfast and the local Mohinga Soup is a must. Absolutely loved it. A few thing to improve besides the design would be the extremely slow internet connection which was a big problem for me and the missing plug in at the bed.

The bottom line is that the service and old world charm saves the experience and I have decided to rank it as a great experience, but only just.

My opinion: Great experience.
