The Westin Miyako Kyoto

Starwood is my favourite hotel program and has a selection of many greats hotels. While St. Regis, Luxury Collection and W-hotels is their top brands, Westin is a brand like Hilton. There are great, average and bad hotels, while most of the bad hotels are in the USA, most of the good hotels are in Asia, and one of them is in Kyoto. This hotel has over 500 rooms and is one of the few quality hotels in Kyoto. As a Starwood Preferred Guest Platinum member, I was upgraded to an Executive Suite. Without being a top class, it was a comfortable suite with a beautiful view of Kyoto. The standard rooms have been criticised on Tripadvisor for being dated, but my room had two flat screen Tv’s and new furniture which made it acceptable.

The service is fair too, but of course, very far from a St. Regis hotel. The food is good; I especially liked the large selection of food in the breakfast buffet. The facilities is nice with both an indoor- and outdoor pool. The gym was acceptable too, but nothing in the hotel feels like a Four Seasons or a St. Regis. It feels exactly as it should. Like a Westin. Westin does have some top properties; Kyoto is not one of them, but it’s one of the best choices in a nice city without any extraordinary hotels.

My opinion: Good experience.
