Villa Dubrovnik is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and Condé Nast Johansen and was definitely the most interesting hotel I found in my Dubrovnik research. I arrived excited to find out if it would be the best as well.
The arrival experience was very nice, but as Hotel Bellevue, Villa Dubrovnik didn’t offer it’s guests a welcome drink which I think is a must for a resort. I was escorted to the room by the great receptionist. I stayed in a Superior Room which had a lovely design. The entire hotel’s design exceeded my expectations being contemporary and probably a light version of the Fasano hotels. Fasano has some of the best designed hotels in the world and I could see some of those touches in Villa Dubrovnik.
What disappointed me about the room was the bed and the shower. The shower wasn’t separate from the bathtub which I consider a must for newer hotels, especially when one keep in mind Villa Dubrovnik opened 3 years ago. The bed will always depend on your personal preference, but for me a bed must be very soft. The bed in Villa Dubrovnik was quite hard and not what I personally like. To finish the dislikes, the internet password is quite complicated and the minibar is very expensive. 5 Euro for a Coca Cola you can buy for 50 cents in the Supermarket. The Superior room’s highlight is probably the balcony with the beautiful sea view. Guests can also enjoy high end Bulgari products in the bathroom which I didn’t see in any other hotel in Balkan.
From the moment I arrived Villa Dubrovnik exceeded my expectations. It’s easily the best hotel in Dubrovnik and actually one of the better SLH properties. The most important thing is always the service and it’s far from the best I’ve seen, but by far the best I experienced in Dubrovnik. Their rates in low season is excellent value for money as you really get an experience in Villa Dubrovnik. I also forgot to tell you that this was the only hotel in Balkan with a personal handwritten welcome card and spa facilities of a high standard. The other hotels has gym and spa, but Villa Dubrovnik sets the standard where it’s hard to fault anything. What makes the service the best in Dubrovnik is a few staff in key positions which are absolutely excellent. Like the Front Desk Manager which had a great attitude, professionalism and kindness. Some staff needs to improve their English, but I couldn’t pick any staff with a bad attitude which definitely makes a difference.
Overall Villa Dubrovnik exceeded all my expectations which hardly happens. I did not expect a hotel of this level in Balkan based on my experiences in the other hotels in this region. It’s by far the best in Dubrovnik and it’s a must to stay on your travel to the unique town of Dubrovnik.
My opinion: Great experience.
