Coco Pam Dhuni Kolhu is a eco-friendly Maldivian resort with a membership of Preferred Boutique, located 124 kilometres from Malé International Airport.
In 2011 I had the chance to stay at their sister property located close to Malé, but this is a completely different experience in every way. It is very much focused on simplicity and that included the rooms. I stayed in a Deluxe Beach Villa and it might be too basic for the discerning traveler going to The Maldives. This is boutique property and Preferred Boutique is a great match, while the other Coco Palm property is luxury and a member of Small Luxury hotels of the World. It is certainly important to do your research before arriving in The Maldives as each resort is different and with different things to offer. My villa had wine as welcome amenities and some snacks. The best thing about the villa was the outdoor shower, bathtub and small plunge pool. The inside area was very small compared to other Maldivian resorts, but again with big focus on simplicity and eco friendliness. The villa was just located a few steps from the excellent beach which always is one of the main selling points for any Maldivian resort. On the negative point I noted a hard bed which was uncomfortable for me as I very much prefer a soft bed. There also is no internet available in the room so I had to do all emailing at the bar. Later I found out there also is internet available at the spa which is a great place to relax.
The service at Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu can definitely be improved and in my opinion they don’t put too much effort into it. I think this resort has the smallest staff pr. room ratio in the whole Maldives. 98 rooms total, but only 150 staff. On the other hand, food is a high priority and it was a pleasure to see their garden where they grow lots of the ingredients used in the restaurant. The food was very good and above average of the other Maldivian resorts I’ve stayed. To finish the service part, I think the staff were very kind and helpful, but they just need more staff for the service to become great.
The bottom line is that Coco Palm Dhuni Kolhu is a worth it’s membership of Preferred Boutique and offer a different kind of experience in The Maldives and most importantly with good value for money.
My opinion: Good+ experience.
