Ett Hem is a new small hotel in the capital of Sweden and with immediate membership of Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Ett Hem means “A Home” and they are certainly true to their name. I immediately felt like a guest, actually like the only guest although the hotel was half full during my stay. Ett Hem has 12 rooms in 5 different categories from 20 to 54 square metres. I stayed in their smallest 20 square metres Double Room, but size really doesn’t matter. I absolutely loved it. It had comfortable bed, flatscreen Tv, shower in the bathroom along with Kiehl’ products. Although I loved it, I could also find things I didn’t like and in my opinion mistakes. No welcome amenities as I would expect in a hotel with this level of service and accomodation. Many small hotels of this level don’t charge for the mini-bar which is highly appreciated by all travellers, but Ett Hem unfortunately has a very overpriced mini-bar with a 8 dollar price tag for an apple juice. I was also not offered a welcome drink which in my opinion is a must. Not even a complimentary bottle of water was in the room which was dissapointing, but I loved everything else about it and the internet was really fast and of course complimentary.
Ett Hem has already been well recognized, not only it’s membership of SLH, but also with inclusion in Condé Nast Travelers Hot List as one of the best new hotels in the world. Andrew Harper has also noted this new excellent property and awarded it the Grand Award. The small lobby is beautifully designed and truly feels like a room. It’s library is up to a very high standard and the kitchen has great food. I only had the breakfast, but it was superb and you can have it just the way you like it. They don’t have a menu, just tell them what you want and they’ll prepare it. Any time you want, no set time for breakfast which I really loved. Another thing I really loved was the spa facilities in the basement where you can put a “Do not disturb”-sign on the door. It makes it feel like the spa facilities is part of the room, as you can be the only guest whenever you like. In the spa complimentary bottles of water is provided and was a nice touch. Finally, it’s just to mention the service. It is over the top, personalized and I couldn’t believe I was actually in Europe. It’s the best city hotel I have experienced and it makes me proud to be Scandinavian. It’s expensive, but highly recommended for a unique, personal experience and surely one not to be missed if you have a passion for great hotels.
My opinion: Fantastic experience.
