Glenmere Mansion is located in Chester, 1 hour from New York City. There is no direct public transport to the property, but train station and bus stop is only a short drive away and the hotel can pick you up from there. The only reason I selected Glenmere Mansion was its membership of Relais&Chateaux, an organization I love and have found very helpful in finding unique experiences. Furthermore, this property was voted the most romantic hideaway in the world by Hideaways International. I have stayed in 100s of hotels in nearly 100 countries and I never know what to expect with Relais&Chateaux as each experience is different and unique. It’s a collection and not a brand like Ritz-Carlton or Four Seasons where I often know how the experience is going to be. The Relais&Chateaux status is very impressive as Glenmere Mansion opened just over a year ago and normally takes hotels years to achieve it.
Since I have been travelling unlimited since I was 17 I never took a drivers license and actually arrived in Chester by bus. The hotel picked me up, and I arrived to a warm welcome. Right after I was escorted to my room by the butler. I stayed in a superior room which was absolutely fantastic and with attention to every detail. Fantastic bed, lovely contemporary design, free standing bathtub and everything in the room had Glenmere Mansions own logo. The room didn’t have minibar, but just outside my door is a relaxation area with complimentary drinks and snacks. The bathroom products were made in Italy, but also had a logo and the owners thought about every single detail. Bravo!
The facilities exceeded my expectations by far. A lovely swimming pool, great gym, two restaurants, tennis court and an upcoming spa is more than the usual R&C properties, and this one only has 18 rooms. One of the 5 C’s of Relais&Chateaux is Cuisine, and the food was some of the best I’ve ever had anywhere. Dan’s soup is the best in the world and a must try. The service at both breakfast, lunch and dinner was excellent and personalized. To finish it’s important for me to say that the butler and front desk staff was some of the best I’ve experienced, and I loved everything about this experience.
Overall I was very surprised. As I said in the beginning, I never know what to expect with Relais&Chateaux as they all have their own character, but this was the best to date. I recently placed this as my favorite hotel in the world in an interview with the local newspaper in Denmark. It’s hard picking a top 10, but it’s certainly one of my most memorable experiences.
My opinion: Favorite experience.
