After several experiences with Design Hotels, I now know what the group stands for. Yes, design. The only requirement is to have a special design as most of the hotels I’ve visited so far would not be good enough for luxury hotel groups like Leading Hotels of the World and Small Luxury Hotels of the world. Klaus K is one of those hotels. The design and atmosphere are great, but the service is the basis. I stayed in a Desire King Room, and it did have a good design, but besides that there was nothing great about it. I missed a bath tub.
The room wasn’t 100% clean; I complained about it, and they told me that they only do a complete cleaning if you ask for it in advance. That’s probably the difference between the very best hotels and Design Hotels 4-star hotels. The hotel was included in Condé Nast Traveller’s Hot List when it first opened as one of the best new hotels in the world. Overall 150 EUR is pretty cheap for a member of Design Hotels, but besides the design, it’s not an experience to remember for the luxurious traveller.
