The Bannister Hotel is a member of Small Luxury Hotels of the World and located in Samaná, 300 kilometres north of Dominican Republic’s capital, Santo Domingo.
I arrived in the afternoon and was given a welcome drink before being escorted to the room. I stayed in an elegant One Bedroom Suite with wonderful sea views. The service was very good with kind staff, but the English level was lacking among most staff which was a problem as I had to visit front desk to ask for English speaking staff every time I needed help or information. The internet was complimentary, but not as fast as I had hoped for. I was not able to make Skype calls which is something I really need in my travels.
The breakfast was a good experience. The buffet is quite small, but the items were of good quality. I didn’t have dinner in the hotel as I went to a local place, but reviews are mixed. Small Luxury Hotels of the World isn’t Relais&Chateaux and while I consider their room categories better, the food is far from that standard based on many experiences with both marketing organizations.
Overall it’s a hotel that impressed me in many ways, but also with service details that must be improved. The beautiful design and location combined with kind staff makes it a succes and great place to stay. The value is important to mention as well as I consider this property excellent value for money with rates starting at 150 USD pr. night in low season.
My opinion: Great experience.
